Man wanted in two counties remains on the run after shooting Bartow K9 during pursuit police say

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office on October 13, 2023:

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. – According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at approximately 1635 hours, Uniform Patrol and K9 Deputies observed a 2010 Honda Civic on Hwy 411 near the Interstate 75 interchange which was possibly occupied by a Geoffry Frank Walker, 30, of Rome.

Walker was wanted for an outstanding warrant through Bartow County following a family violence incident which had occurred on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Cartersville Walmart located at 101 Market Place Blvd in Cartersville. Walker also had additional warrants for another family violence and obstruction incident in Floyd County earlier in the day.

A vehicle pursuit ensued with the Honda Civic and Walker eventually fled on foot from deputies. Deputy K9 Athos was released by his handler to assist in the apprehension. Multiple shots were heard and K9 Athos was found injured.

K9 Athos was transported to a nearby Animal Hospital where he was treated for his injury.
