Two-year-old seen playing with gun inside car, points it at woman, Albany mother arrested

Dougherty County (February 23, 2023) – A 48-year-old woman called the authorities to report that a woman’s small child had pointed a gun at her from a car’s passenger seat. The juvenile’s mother denied the accusation; however, a witness exiting his vehicle observed a small boy wearing pajamas playing with a pistol.

At first, the witness thought it was a toy, but as he looked closer, he realized it was real. When the suspect, Alexandria Celest Hamilton, saw him looking at the gun, she laughed and grabbed it from the boy’s hands. She said she had not realized her boyfriend had left his pistol in her car.

Officers from the Albany Police Department located Hamilton in the driver’s seat of a black Nissan Altima. Hamilton said she knew the victim from “being in jail with her” and that she had approached her vehicle and began talking. She admitted to leaving the location for a period of time after talking with the victim to go to Family Dollar and later returned to wait on a male friend.

When police asked Hamilton if there were any weapons in her car, she told them that her two-year-old son might have a “green play gun” in her vehicle, but she did not recall any incident involving a real one. She died neither one of her children playing with a gun. When officers searched the car, they did not retrieve a firearm.

The victim explained that the child had reached under the seat, pulled out a black gun, and aimed it at her. Officers arrested Hamilton for reckless conduct and transported her to the Dougherty County Jail. This case is currently pending in court.
