MACON, Ga. – Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies and Child Protective Services were contacted on April 4 after two children were reportedly beaten by their mother for misbehaving in school. Video handed over to investigators shows the mother punching one of the children with her fists and hitting her with a broomstick.
Reports say the girls’ mother, Keanu Wunyae Brown, struck one of the children across the face with a belt, leaving bruising on both sides. Brown was caught on home security footage beating both children.
Responding deputies spoke with Brown, who said things “got a little out of hand” and claimed she did not mean to strike one of her daughters across the face. The children’s father told investigators that he was going to take the girls to softball practice, and their mother let him know the girls had been spanked for misbehaving at school. However, when the father arrived home to pick up his children, he saw the marks on the girls from the beating.
Brown was charged with two counts of child cruelty. She was booked into the Bibb County Jail on April 5. A safety plan was put in place for her children. This case is currently pending in court.

On April 4, 2023 at 2014hrs I Deputy L. Pitts was dispatched to [4900 BLOCK] Bradley Place where I made contact with (CPS) Supervisor [WITNESS #1] who advised me that she was called out in reference to children being physically abused by their mother.
Mrs. [WITNESS #1] informed me that the two children in question were spanked by their mother Ms. Keanu Brown for getting in trouble in school. She stated that she was told that the kids had visible bruising all over their bodies and one has bruising on the face. She stated that the grandmother (Mrs. [REDACTED]) has camera’s inside the home that recorded the incident.
Mrs. [REDACTED] provided camera footage that showed Ms. Keanu aggressively striking both kids with a belt multiple time on various parts of their bodies. At one point in the video, the oldest child is being struck multiple times by Ms. Keanu with a broom stick and punched with her fists. Investigator Treore was contacted via cellphone and I had him speak with Ms. [WITNESS #1].
Contact was made with the mother Ms. Keanu Brown who advised me that she received a phone call from the school stating her daughters were acting out. She stated that she spanked the kids and it got a little out of hand. She stated that she did not intentionally hit her daughter in the face, she stated the belt slipped.
I then spoke with the kid’s father Mr. [WITNESS #2] who advised me that his kids were dropped off at his home so he could take them to softball practice. He stated that Ms. Keanu called him and told him that the girls got a spanking for acting out in school.
He stated that he did not thinking nothing of it until he got home and saw his daughter’s face. He stated that she had bruising on both sides of her face. He stated that he immediately called and confronted Ms. Keanu. He stated that she became upset and showed up to his home demanding that he give her the children.
When the children arrived on scene Mrs. [WITNESS #1] looked then over and found superficial bruising on various parts of their bodies. She advised me that a safety plan would be put in place for the children. She stated that she would reach out to Investigator Treore and advise him of the plan.
Case was forwarded to Investigator Treore.
