Marcell Ozuna Atlanta Braves left fielder pleads no contest pays fine for 2022 DUI

ATLANTA, Ga. – Left-fielder for the Atlanta Braves, Marcell Idelfonso Ozuna, was arrested on August 19, 2022, by a Norcross Police officer and charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane/unsafe lane change. The officer transported him to the Gwinnett County Jail, where he was later released on $1,830 bond.

Ozuna stated, “I disappointed my team. I disappointed my family. I don’t have anything to say more. It’s a legal matter.” This incident follows a previous arrest on May 29, 2021, for battery and aggravated assault by strangulation.

At the time, officers explained that they observed him assault his wife. However, after he took part in a first-offender pretrial diversion program, the charges were dropped.

Fans have responded negatively, and he battled struggles at home plate at the start of the season. He endures frequent boos from the home fan crowd, even as the designated hitter at Tuesday’s game versus the Boston Red Sox.

Despite the harsh responses, he enjoyed recent success with six home runs, four of which he hit during his past five games.

Regarding his 2022 DUI arrest and plea agreement, court records reveal that he entered a no-contest plea and paid a $1,000 fine.
