BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – On August 21, 2023, a mother traveled to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and reported that Giovonni Ferlandez Tharpe had sexually assaulted her juvenile daughter on numerous occasions. On October 5, 2023, officers arrested the Macon man and charged him with rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation, felony trafficking of persons for labor servitude, and felony probation violation for a fingerprintable charge.
The mother said her child’s father had just informed her about the assaults, but their daughter had told him about the crimes “months ago.” She showed the officers screenshots of text messages stating, “When her mother is asleep, he was going to come in her room, and she did not want him coming in there.”
Tharpe had asked the juvenile “if she wanted to make some money.” She told him no, but he “had sexual intercourse at least eight or nine times with [her]” in December.
