Lyons Insurance Agent arrested for identity fraud

Toombs County – A licensed insurance agent in Toombs County was arrested on July 22 after fraudulently depositing several insurance premium refund checks into her own accounts.

According to the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, John F. King, Kerri Monroe, 48, forged the victim’s signature on five of the seven checks that she deposited and transferred between her own accounts.

The checks totaled more than $23,000 and were deposited by Monroe between October 15, 2021 and April 6, 2022.

The funds were never returned to the victim.

Monroe was charged with five counts of ‘Identity Fraud’ and seven counts of ‘Reporting and Disposition of Premiums’ after an investigation by the Commissioner’s Criminal Investigations Division, the Toombs County Sheriff’s office, and the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation.

Monroe has since been released on bond.
