HALL COUNTY, Ga. – On Saturday, November 11, 2023, at approximately 6:45 AM, Hall County deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a Samoa Way residence and encountered an aggressive, naked male suspect refusing to exit the house. When he wielded a gun, shot it, and then aimed it at them, the deputies opened fire, killing him.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as 57-year-old Flowery Branch man David James Umpmreyville. The woman who called 911, later identified as Umpmreyville’s wife, reported that she had been attacked by a male assailant.
She explained that he pushed her down the stairs and prevented her from leaving the home at gunpoint. She somehow escaped and fled to a neighbor’s house.
The deputies described Umpmreyville as belligerent. They contacted the SWAT team for assistance, and a standoff ensued.
