Warning: The following report describes violence against animals.

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – A Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy and an animal control officer responded to a Burton Avenue residence regarding “a dog being set on fire.” The officer explained that “the dog’s collar was embedded inside of her neck” and a “leg was burned off.”

The deputy noted, “The dog had maggots coming out of her neck so deeply where I could see her veins.” After extinguishing the fire, the officer said the dog “was in bad shape before she passed away.”

The animal control officer explained to the dog owner, Natalie Crystal Evans, that having the collar too tight was animal cruelty and “she should have taken it off.” Evans said she “put the collar on the dog to keep her from running away.”

Animal control removed the dog from the property. The deputy arrested and transported Evans to the Bibb County Jail, where she was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

This case is pending in court.
