Three men charged with murder for Lawrenceville mall shooting death of 17 year old

Update #3: A third suspect has been arrested in a 2022 homicide. On October 5, 2022, officers responded to 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway in unincorporated Lawrenceville in reference to a shooting investigation.

Seventeen-year-old Elijah Dewitt was killed in the incident. Following the shooting, two suspects were arrested in Anderson, South Carolina.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested a third suspect in the case. Kpadeh Jones (age 19, Lawrenceville) was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with one count of Malice Murder.

Update #2: The Gwinnett Police Department has charged Kemare Bryan (age 18, Lawrenceville) and Chandler Richardson (age 19, Lawrenceville) with Felony Murder, Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Felonies in connection with the murder of Elijah Dewitt. Bryan and Richardson are currently in the custody of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in Anderson, SC.

They will be extradited to Gwinnett County on Monday, October 10. Detectives are still working to investigate the motive behind this incident.

It appears that an altercation took place prior to the shooting. The Gwinnett Homicide Unit was assisted in this arrest by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Georgia State Patrol.

Update #1: The Gwinnett Police Department currently has one suspect in custody out of state in connection with this case. The investigation is still ongoing, but detectives have reason to believe that this was not a random encounter and that some of the parties involved in the incident were known to each other.
