an wanted for killing estranged wife shot by Coweta Co. deputies after day long manhunt

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on November 23, 2023:

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Sharpsburg, Coweta County, Georgia. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on November 22, 2023.

One man, identified as Dustin Allen Phillips, age 34, of Sharpsburg, GA, was shot and killed. No deputies were injured in this incident.   

The preliminary information indicates on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at about 9:30 p.m., Coweta County deputies responded to a home on Halo Trace searching for Phillips. Phillips was wanted by authorities on a murder warrant.

Phillips allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife the previous day during a domestic dispute near the same area on Halo Trace. When deputies arrived at the home, they saw Phillips who ran away.

Deputies ran after him. Phillips pointed a handgun at deputies and fired several times.
