The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday that a Georgia sheriff wanted for sexual violence had surrendered to authorities.

Sheriff Kristopher Coody, 57, of Bleckley County surrendered to the Cobb County Jail on Friday and was released on bail shortly after, according to the sheriff’s office. According to reports, he is facing accusations of sexual violence for allegedly groping an Atlanta judge.

The supposed incident occurred in a hotel bar during the Georgia Sheriff’s Association’s winter conference last month. Coody “did place his hand” on the victim’s bodily parts without the victim’s consent, according to the warrant.

The Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office released a statement last week that said “Coody was [currently] out of state at a church-sponsored mission trip that has been scheduled for nearly a year.”

“Sheriff Coody has been a law enforcement officer for more than two decades and has tremendous respect for our court system. He is taking these allegations seriously and will meet with the appropriate authorities as soon as he returns,” the release continued.

Bleckley County is located about 30 miles southeast of Macon.
