Woman caught dumping cats along Rossville road forced by witness to recapture them

ROSSVILLE, Ga. – A woman was arrested on June 16 on a warrant from an incident last fall when she was allegedly caught abandoning several cats on the side of a Walker County roadway.

A witness told police he witnessed a “red-headed female,” later identified as Lindsey Marie Cordell, dumping the cats. The witness told police he forced her to recapture the animals and take them with her. One cat was left behind.

The witness reported seeing Cordell put several cats and kittens out of her gray Dodge Avenger on Schmidt Road on October 27 last year. He claimed Cordell began to drive away, almost running over the cats, before he stopped her. Cordell ultimately collected all of the cats, with the exception of one that ran into the woodline. By the time officers arrived, Cordell could not be located. Police identified her as the owner of the car using the temporary tag information, and a warrant was issued for her arrest for abandoning the animals.

On June 16, officers in Catoosa County arrested her. Cordell was charged with cruelty to animals in Walker County.

[NARRATIVE #1 on October 27, 2022]

On 10/27/2022 at 1749 hours I responded to [400 BLOCK] Schmidt Rd in reference to a female “Dumping cats” on the side of the roadway.

Upon arrival I spoke with the witness who stated a Gray Dodge Avenger (Temporary Ga Tag [REDACTED]) had stopped on the side of the roadway and began removing multiple cats and kittens from the vehicle and leaving them on the side of the roadway. The witness stated he made the “Red headed female” pick the cats back up and put them back in her vehicle. The witness said once he got her stopped, she picked all but one of them back up and drove off.

The caller stated before she picked them all up, she attempted to leave them and drive off almost striking multiple cats until he made her stop the vehicle, scaring the cats. I attempted to make contact with the cat that was left on the side of the roadway and it was running through the woods, scared to let me get near it. I attempted to make contact with the suspect who is the vehicle owner and matches the description of the female the witness gave, but I couldn’t locate her. I will be taking warrants on the suspect for cruelty to animals (Misdemeanor) due to the abandonment she did.

Upon taking custody of the prisoner, I handcuffed him in the front and leg irons. All were then checked for fit and double locked. The offender was then searched and no contraband or weapons were found. Prior to placing the offender in the back of my patrol vehicle I searched my back seat for contraband and weapons and nothing was found. I then placed the offender into the back seat of my patrol vehicle. I then transported the offender to the Walker County jail. Upon arrival at the jail the offender was removed from my vehicle and I searched the rear seat of my patrol vehicle for contraband and weapons and nothing was found. The offender was then turned over detention personnel.
