Man gets life in prison after killing two sisters throwing bodies off Rome bridge

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – On May 13, 2020, Georgia Department of Transportation employees discovered the bodies of two sisters, 19-year-old Vanita Richardson and 30-year-old Clarice Truvenia Campbell, under the East Rome Bypass Bridge. On November 21, 2023, one of three suspects arrested for the crimes received a guilty conviction of capital murder by a Cherokee County, Alabama, jury, who reached their verdict in less than 60 minutes.

Court documents revealed that Desmond Lavonta Brown believed Richardson and Campbell stole his wallet at a birthday party and organized a car ride with them and two other men. While searching the sisters for the wallet, they allegedly shot and killed them, then disposed of their bodies.
