On Tuesday June 6 2023, at approximately 1516 hours I responded to the area of Cherokee Pl (Staples) in reference to a white male walking around carrying a gun. Upon my arrival, I entered into Staples where the subject was alleged to be with the firearm.
I made contact with a store employee who advised a white male wearing a black wig, in an open shirt, carrying what appeared to be a gun just left the store. Officers searched the area in an attempt to locate the subject. I observed a white male matching the description of the subject in front of Starbucks across from Cherokee Place.
I made contact with the male who I identified as Mr. Matthew Blackerby, while he was carrying a toy Nerf gun. A GCIC check of Mr. Blackerby was run yielding negative wants.
While speaking with Mr. Blackerby I was made aware by other officers Mr. Blackerby was trespassed from Cherokee Pl. Cartersville Admin Services was contacted and verified Mr. Matthew Blackerby to have a current Criminal trespass on file for Cherokee Pl.
At this time, due to employees stating Mr. Blackerby was inside the store located in Cherokee Pl Mr. Blackerby was placed under arrest.
Mr. Blackerby was searched incident to arrest yielding negative for any weapons or contraband. Mr. Blackerby was placed into the rear of my marked department issued vehicle that is searched prior to and after each transport yielding negative for any weapons or contraband. Mr. Blackerby was transported to 104 Zena Dr (Bartow County Jail) without incident.
