On February 24, 2024 at approximately 2110 deputies were sent to a check welfare at [100 BLOCK] Mauldin Way. Deputy Hall and Sgt. Sullivan made contact with a [VICTIM #1].

[VICTIM #1] had stated that his mother and one of her friends were threatening to kill him and that he was really scared. Deputies advised [VICTIM #1] to call and have someone pick him up since he was the only one currently at the residence. [VICTIM #1] consented to Deputy Hall looking around the residence to make sure no one else was inside.

While looking through the residence Deputy Hall noticed an aluminum foil ball that was crumpled up on the bed. Prior to Deputy Hall entering the back half of the residence [VICTIM #1] omitted that he did not know what it could contain due to his mother keeping drugs inside the residence. [VICTIM #1] was asked what was inside the aluminum foil to which he replied he did not know. Deputies advised [VICTIM #1] to call back if there was a further altercation whenever his mother occurred.

Deputies then responded the same date at 2210 hours to [100 BLOCK] Mauldin Way in reference to a domestic dispute between a [VICTIM #1] and his mother Karen Maddox. Upon arrival Deputy Hall made contact with Karen who was standing on the outside of the residence and was observed to be distraught. Karen was yelling stating that her son, [VICTIM #1] had jumped all over her and that when she exited the residence that her animals had gotten out.

Karen advised that [VICTIM #1] was constantly causing issues due to Fentanyl use and other drug use. Karen stated that [VICTIM #1] would always come home from work and “cause problems.” Deputy Hall then made contact with [VICTIM #1] who stated he had everything on video. [VICTIM #1] showed Deputy Hall a video of the altercation. In the video Deputy Hall observed Karen cursing at [VICTIM #1] stating that he jumped all over her which was not shown in the video. Deputy Hall observed Karen striking [VICTIM #1] multiple times with her purse while cursing at him. Deputy Hall then observed Karen pick up a katana and come at [VICTIM #1] swinging the katana at him stating “I’m going to fu*king kill you [VICTIM #1].”

Deputy Hall did a GCIC/NCIC lookup of both parties. The GCIC lookup of Karen came back with a hit for a warrant through Dalton Police Department. Karen was placed under arrest and placed into the back of Deputy Hall’s patrol car. [VICTIM #1] was sent a link to upload the video of the incident to Evidence.com. Deputy Hall collected the katana to be placed into evidence.

Deputy Hall then transported Karen to the Whitfield County Detention Center, where she was served with a warrant by a Dalton Police Officer. Karen was charged on Warrantless Arrest #(68499) for Aggravated Assault (16-5-21) and Terroristic threat and acts (16-22-37(b)(1)(a)). Karen was then released to Whitfield County Booking.
