[NARRATIVE #1 on June 12, 2023]
On June 12, 2023 I, Ofc. Caldwell #346, responded to a report of a gunshot wound at [400 BLOCK] Maple Ln; Apt. [REDACTED].
Upon my arrival there were several people outside pointing to apartment [REDACTED]. I went inside and saw the victim, [VICTIM #1], holding his hand to his stomach. [VICTIM #1] stated that a person had tried shooting him but he turned the weapon away and didn’t think that he was actually shot.
[VICTIM #1] moved his hands away from his stomach and I observed a square red mark with no blood or apparent bullet penetration. [VICTIM #1] described a verbal argument with a female, who then tried to point a gun at him and tried to shoot him. [VICTIM #1] stated that the females name was Verjanae Manley, and she lived at apartment [REDACTED].
Ofc. Potts, Ofc. Gibbs and I then went to apartment [REDACTED] and called everyone out of the residence. Varjanae and several others stepped out. Ofc. Gibbs placed Varjanae into handcuff’s and walked her towards his vehicle. Ofc. Gibbs had pointed to a firearm that was on a vehicle, which Varjanae had told him she used.
I then stood by with that pistol until CID arrived. After pictures were taken, Det. Shey took the pistol, a Sig Saurer P365 (66F163389), to be turned into evidence. While making the pistol safe for transport observed there to be one bullet in the chamber and 7 in the magazine. The pistol was turned over to Det. Shey and I went back into service.

[NARRATIVE #2 on June 12, 2023]
On June 12, 2023, at 1204 hours, I was dispatched to [400 BLOCK] Maple Place in reference to someone being shot.
Upon my arrival, Officer Potts and I were advised the suspect was in apartment [REDACTED]. When Officer Potts and I approached the apartment a female walked out and then the suspect later known as Varjanae Manley walked outside. Varjanae lay down on the grown like she was told to do.
I placed her in handcuffs and got her off the ground. Varjanae kept telling us that she was the one that called 911 on herself. When we walked by the several cars, Varjanae told me the gun was on the hood while looking at it. I got Officer Caldwell to stand by the pistol while I was taking Varanae to my patrol car.
While going to my patrol car Varjanae said we were racist and we let out child predators and child molesters on the streets. She told me [VICTIM #1] grab her gun and it went off. When we reached my patrol I told Varjanae she will be able to give us her side of the story of what happened in a few minutes but she kept talking above [VICTIM #1] grabbed his side and she thought she shot him.
I went ahead and read Varjanae her Maranda Warning and asked her if she wants to answer any of my questions about the incident. She told yes she can. After I got Detective Xiong, and Detective Lewis Varjanae explained several days ago, she woke up with missed calls from her daughter. She saw a text message from her daughter of [VICTIM #1] was in jail for sexual battery of a sixteen-year-old.
Then she said her daughter [REDACTED] lived with [VICTIM #1] for approximately three years ago. [VICTIM #1] found [REDACTED] on the floor naked in the bathroom and put her on his bed. When [VICTIM #1] was arrested several nights ago, he told [REDACTED] nothing happened between them that night but he felt that she wanted it.
Varjanae said that comment made her mad and she always has her gun on her. When she finally saw [VICTIM #1] outside she “Step” on him, and asked him why did he comment on her daughter. [VICTIM #1] stated “oh really” “nothing like that happened”. “[VICTIM #1] grabbed her gun and it went off”.
I asked her while she was talking to him did she have her gun out. She told me she pulled it out. [REDACTED] said “I was ready to kill his a*s”, and “No, I was going to shoot him in the di*k because he fu*ks around with young girls”. I asked her if the gun was pointed at him while they were arguing. She said she pulled the pistol out because he ran up to her.
Varjanae then said while [VICTIM #1] was walking away from her, they were arguing. When [VICTIM #1] turned and acted like he was going to go inside for something that was when she pulled her pistol out. [VICTIM #1] started walking towards her and she put a round in the chamber by cocking the gun back because she does not carry a bullet in the chamber. [VICTIM #1] then grabbed the pistol and it went off.
She told me when it comes to her children or people like [VICTIM #1] she does not care. I then got Varanae’s name and date of birth. I took her to the Monroe police department where Deceive Studded took over the investigation. I transported Varanae to the Walton County jail for booking. My back seat was checked for any contraband.
