On 4-12-2022, I, Deputy Martin was dispatched to [400 BLOCK] Fieldcrest Drive in reference to a dispute. Upon arrival, I made contact with [VICTIM #1].
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she and Michael Crawford just got home. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that the power bill was not paid and Mr. Crawford was in charge of the utilities being paid. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she went and paid the bill and then came back to the residence. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she approached Mr. Crawford about the bills and they got into a verbal altercation and she then went to the spare room.
Mr. Crawford came into the room and started to accuse her of cheating, she tried shutting the door, and he pushed it opened. Mr. Crawford then grabbed Ms. [VICTIM #1] and began choking her out by placing his arm around her neck and squeezing. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated she could not breathe. Mr. Crawford began dragging her around on the carpet floor and accusing her of cheating and that she treats him badly. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated she attempted to get him to stop by scratching his arm while she was in a chokehold. Mr. Crawford then grabbed Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s hair and punched in the side of the head. He then let go. Ms. [VICTIM #1] had her mother call the police.
I observed that Ms. [VICTIM #1] had red mark around her neck, scratch marks on her hands, and a knot and a scratch on the left side of her head. I took photos of the injuries and had Ms. [VICTIM #1] complete a statement form.
Due to Ms. [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Crawford living together in the residence, I asked her if she had anywhere she could stay for the rest of the night and she stated no. I advised her contact us if he comes back to the residence.
Other deputies and I canvassed the area looking for Mr. Crawford. We were unable to locate Mr. Crawford. I left the premises and went back into service. There is nothing further to report at this time.
I am obtaining warrants for the following: Battery (16-5-23.1), Aggravated Assault by Strangulation (16-5-21 (b)).
