On July 16, 2023 at approximately 0056 hours DEPUTY M. D. RALSTON with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division, was on routine patrol in the area of Harmony Church Road and Dews Pond Road Calhoun, Gordon County Georgia. While on patrol DEPUTY RALSTON observed a 2003 Red Chevrolet Avalanche traveling west on Dews Pond with its front passenger side headlight out.
DEPUTY RALSTON conducted a traffic stop on the truck just east of the intersection with Harmony Church Road. DEPUTY RASLTON approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver BRANDON BENSON. While DEPUTY RALSTON was speaking with BRANDON he noticed an unopened Four Loko an alcoholic beverage sitting in the passenger seat.
DEPUTY RALSTON then asked BRANDON if he had consumed any alcohol recently, BRANDON stated a while ago. DEPUTY RALSTON had BRANDON step out of the vehicle and walked to the front of his patrol car. DEPUTY RALSTON asked BRANDON if he would agree to complete the standardized Field Sobriety exercise.
