COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. – Grovetown Police officers arrested three individuals on Friday, November 17, 2023, for attempting to deliver drugs to inmates inside Augusta State Medical Prison via a drone. Due to recent nearby vehicle break-ins, law enforcement stopped and questioned two people walking by the facility at 11:40 PM and discovered vacuum-sealed packages of methamphetamine and marijuana, a drone, and a remote control in the male’s backpack.

Authorities said the drone featured a “hook and release mechanism,” and they found additional drone attachments and parts in a fanny pack. While they spoke with 28-year-old Gerald Jiminez and 26-year-old Joslynn Apaisa, another male approached and said he arrived to pick up the duo.

Officers detained Jiminez, Apaisa, and the man, 28-year-old Isreal Walters, and transported them to the police department. During an interview, Jiminez and Apaisa confessed to intending to use the drone to deliver the drugs to prisoners.
