Former Coweta County deputy arrested for pulling gun on another officer during argument·

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on June 10, 2024:

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – The GBI has arrested and charged former Coweta County Deputy James Arthur Broadwater, age 31, of Newnan, Coweta County, GA, with Pointing a Pistol at Another and Violation of Oath by Public Officer. On May 7, 2024, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations that Broadwater pointed a pistol at another Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputy.

The investigation indicates that following roll call at the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, on May 1, 2024, Broadwater was in a disagreement with another deputy. During the argument, Broadwater pulled his service weapon from his holster and pointed it at the other deputy.

Broadwater was booked at the Coweta County Jail.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI regional investigative office in Columbus at 706-565-7888.
