Warning: The following report describes violence against and neglect of animals.

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. – On December 23, 2023, a Walker County Sheriff’s deputy arrested two Rossville individuals after receiving multiple complaints about animal cruelty. The deputy responded to a Sherry Drive residence and met with an animal control officer, who said he received an anonymous call regarding “a dog trapped under a chain-linked kennel in the backyard.”

The animal control officer explained that he utilized a drone to examine the area and spotted “what appeared to be a dog trapped under the kennel.” He and the deputy knocked on the home’s door, but no one answered.

They walked toward the yard to check on the welfare of the canine, and as they approached, “the dog came out from under the kennel and appeared ok.” The animal control officer stated he has had “several complaints about the mistreatment of the dogs and observed that they appeared underweight.”

As they attempted knocking again, the officer saw a dog locked in a small crate in the open carport. He said that the dog “was extremely emaciated and laying in feces, urine, and old dog food.”

The deputy noted, “The dog appeared to have a severe infection on its head, causing its right eye to sink in.” The officer advised that “the dog needed emergency medical treatment immediately due to the infection and being extremely malnourished.”

The officer was finally able to contact the suspects and asked them to return home. His investigation determined that “the dog was not properly cared for after the infection and its extreme emaciation.”
