On Tuesday, July 16th, 2024 at approximately 22:10 hours, I responded to [30 BLOCK] Heard Street in Rome in reference to a domestic. Upon my arrival I made contact with a witness, [WITNESS #1], who advised that his girlfriend and a family member got into a physical altercation at the residence. [WITNESS #1] advised that once the cops were called, the girlfriend fled the residence walking toward Harvey Street. I immediately drove toward Harvey Street to look for the female party and immediately made contact with both the victim, [VICTIM #1], and the suspect, Yolanda Nicholson.

While speaking with Yolanda, she informed me that her cousin, [VICTIM #1], and her were drinking heavily at the residence when a verbal argument started. Yolanda advised she did not remember what the argument was about but did inform me that the argument turned into a physical altercation. She advised that [VICTIM #1] hit her across her face and tried to shove her. Yolanda did advise that she began fighting back to defend herself. Yolanda could not tell me where or which side [VICTIM #1] hit her face. She advised she did not want to press charges and just wanted to go home.

While speaking with [VICTIM #1], he informed me that he has been staying at the residence for a few months with Yolanda and [WITNESS #1]. He advised that earlier tonight when they got into the verbal argument, he claimed that Yolanda hit him over the head with a brass ashtray. [VICTIM #1] informed me that he was hit behind his left ear with the ashtray. I did observe a small cut behind [VICTIM #1]’s left ear that was similar to a hit from a blunt object. [VICTIM #1] advised that he never touched Yolanda and immediately called 911. [VICTIM #1] stated once Yolanda found out that the cops were on the way she fled from the residence. [VICTIM #1] advised that he followed her until we arrived on scene.

[WITNESS #1] confirmed [VICTIM #1]’s story, stating that he witnessed Yolanda hit him in the head with the ashtray. [WITNESS #1] also confirmed that he never saw [VICTIM #1] touch Yolanda during the altercation. I immediately asked Yolanda if there was an ashtray involved during the altercation and she stated no. Due to both testimonies by [WITNESS #1] and [VICTIM #1], I placed Yolanda under arrest (handcuffed behind he back, checked cuffs for fit, and double-locked.) [VICTIM #1] was advised of his victim’s bill of rights and advised of TPO procedures.

Yolanda was transported to the Floyd County Jail without incident and booked for Simple Battery FVA and Disorderly Conduct. The back of my patrol car was searched before and after transport.
