Pooler man chokes stranger in Walmart parking lot after road rage argument

Chatham County (November 25, 2022) – Pooler police responding to a Walmart on Black Friday at 8 AM found a man strangling a woman in the parking lot after the woman struck the man’s vehicle for getting too close as she crossed the street.

Officers responded to a possible domestic dispute and saw Glen Terrell hitting and choking the woman, whose eyes began to roll into the back of her head. Officers pulled Terrell off of her and placed him into handcuffs.

Police then spoke to the woman, Jensen Usry, who told them she was crossing the street when Terrell drove by so close she thought he would hit her with his vehicle. She said she struck his car and yelled at Terrell when he pulled his car into the return cart area of the parking lot, got out, and began calling Usry names and commenting on her weight.

The two had conflicting accounts of what happened next; Usry said Terrell pushed her, and when she pushed him back, he began to hit her in the face and strangle her.

Terrell told officers Usry pushed him first, and he was defending himself. He told officers he should not be the only one in handcuffs. Officers told Terrell he had taken it too far and was arrested on aggravated assault charges.

Police said Usry was bruised around her neck and had swelling and bruising to the left side of her face. She also continued to be upset about the comments made about her weight. Terrell had a busted lip but was unsure if Usry or officers had caused his other injuries. Two witnesses at the scene said they saw Terrell choking Usry, but nothing that happened before.

Officers then went inside the store to review surveillance footage which showed Usry as the initial aggressor. Officers said the video showed the verbal altercation but that it only turned physical when Usry slapped Terrell’s phone away and struck him in the face.

When officers told Usry the video showed she started the physical fight, she told officers that as a female, she had a right to defend herself and did not see a problem with slapping Terrell’s phone away. She added he had no right to comment on her weight. Officers explained that what happened to her was wrong, but the incident became physical because of her actions, and she would also face charges.

Terrell was released from custody to get medical attention and later was booked on aggravated assault charges.

Usry later turned herself in on an outstanding warrant for battery.

On the above date and time I responded to Walmart for a call for assistance with Bloomingdale PD. Dispatch advised that it was a possible domestic happening in the parking lot. I made contact with Officer Leak of Bloomingdale PD who had a black male detained. The male was identified as Glen Terrell. Officer Leak advised me he was pulling into the Walmart parking lot when he saw Terrell hitting an unknown female in the face as well as choking her. Officer Leak advised me as he was approaching Terrell the female’s eyes began to roll in the back of head as she was being choked. Officer Leak stated he pulled Terrell off the woman and placed him in handcuffs.

Terrell had injured to his face due to the incident, I called for Pooler Fire and EMS to come on scene due to injuries to both parties. I made contact with the female who identified herself as Jensen Usry. Usry was visibly upset and standing with two female witnesses. I asked Usry what had happened and she stated she was attempting to cross the street and Terrell drove by so close she felt she might be hit. Usry stated she slammed on the vehicle and yelled out at Terrell.

Usry stated that Terrell the pulled his vehicle over to the cart return area and was yelling at her. Usry stated she could not fully understand what he was saying so she walked closer to him. Usry stated that Terrell got out of his vehicle and was making comments about her being over weight and calling her names. Usry stated that Terrell pushed her during a verbal argument and she pushed backed. Usry stated after she was pushed, Terrell began to punch her in the face and then began to choke her. Usry stated she was close to passing out but the police officer came out of no where and pulled Terrell off of her.

Usry did have bruising around her neck as well as swelling and bruising to left side of her face. I advised Usry that I had called for Fire and EMS and they would be there to evaluate her. While standing there Usry continued to be upset talking about the comments made about her weight and how much bigger Terrell was than her.

I spoke with [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2] who where standing with Usry and stated they witnessed some of the incident. They stated they were about to park when they saw Terrell hit Usry in the face and the begin to choke her. They stated they saw the Bloomingdale officer and began to wave him down as they called 911. Both stated they did not see the entire incident.

I spoke with Terrell who stated that Usry hit him first and he was defending himself. Terrell stated he did not understand why he was in handcuffs and not Usry. I advised Terrell while he has a right to defend himself he took things to far. Terrell was advised that he was under arrest for Aggravated Assault for strangling Usry. Terrell stated he did not know that there was a limit on how far you could go while defending yourself. It should be noted that Terrell was sizably bigger than Usry. Terrell stated that his busted lip was due to Usry punching him in the face but was unsure if his other injuries were from her or being pulled to the ground by Officer Leak.

Officers went inside Walmart to view camera footage of the incident. Upon review of the footage it was discovered that Usry was the primary aggressor. On video you could see the verbal altercation begin and it turned physical when Usry slapped Terrell’s phone away. You are also able to see Usry strike Terrell in face.

I spoke with Usry about the footage and what it showed and she stated that she was a scared female, but was going to stand her ground. Usry stated she did not see a problem with slapping Terrell’s phone away even though that started the physical altercation. Usry was advised what happened to was wrong but the incident became physical due to her actions. Usry stated that Terrell had no right to comment on her weight and that she was a female who felt like he might put her in his car and drive away. Usry stated that she was a female and had a right to defend herself. Usry was advised that warrants would be forth coming.

Terrell was transported to Memorial Hospital due to the nature of injuries and his medical history. Upon arrival at Memorial I was advised by Dr’s that Terrell would need multiple tests and that it would be at least a 3-4 hour wait time. Due to call volume and Terrell’s need for medical attention, Terrell was released to seek medical care. Terrell was advised that there would be a warrant for his arrest and he could turn himself in the following week.

Terrell’s vehicle was removed from Walmart by Burnsed Towing.
