Murray County woman accused of breaking into home and chaining victim to ceilin

Murray County (September 24, 2022) – On September 24th, officers responded to a female caller claiming she had been chained up and robbed at knifepoint. Dispatch advised police that the female was currently at the neighbor’s residence.

When police arrived on the scene and made contact with the female victim, she had a rusted padlocked chain around her neck and advised officers that she had injured wrists due to being handcuffed. Officers observed red marks on both of her wrists.

The victim told police the incident occurred when she entered the residence that evening to collect a rice maker. She set her purse and phone on the table, and the back door was kicked in as she walked out of the kitchen. A male and female came inside, and the female pushed her down. They put her in handcuffs, grabbed her arms, and yelled at her to get on the floor while advising her not to look at them.

The female victim claimed that the male had a machete and told the woman to give him all her drugs and money, which she advised him she did not have. They claimed to “know who she was, know her name, and knew that she had drugs and money.” They then covered her mouth with a sheet and blanketed her head. She was taken to another room and thrown on the bed while the female advised the male to “not touch her.”

The male picked up the victim, put her on a ladder, told her to climb up, and stated she was “going to die today.” He then put the chain around her neck and padlocked it and put the chain around the open part of the ceiling on the truss, and handcuffed it where she could not leave. They then kicked the ladder before someone said, “come on, let’s go,” and left.

When the victim did not hear anything, she took the cuffs off of one hand, then the cuffs off the chain, and then took off running with the handcuffs and chain still attached. The victim ran screaming and scared into another residence where her husband was. He saw the chains on her neck and wrist, drove to the property to look around, and spotted a knife behind the female victim’s vehicle. This knife was identified as a knife the female attacker was carrying.

The property is currently undergoing repairs, and over the last several months, several items were stolen, which the victim hasn’t reported. During the incident, the victim claimed her purse was stolen as well as her cell phone and some power tools.

Kati Roberts of Murray County has been charged with Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, Burglary- Forced Entry, Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, and Aggravated Assault for the incident.
