Midway man stabs girlfriend as she slept tried to set house on fire report says

Liberty County (October 13, 2022) – Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Midway home after a man reportedly stabbed his girlfriend in the foot while she was sleeping. Witnesses said the man sliced the sofa with a machete, tried to set the house on fire, and this wasn’t the first time the suspect attempted to stab his girlfriend.

David Allen Wilson Jr said he did not stab the woman and threw his knives in the lake earlier in the day because he was mad. The victim told deputies she was sleeping when she heard Wilson say something, and he sounded angry. She woke to see him sitting at the foot of the bed, smoking a cigarette, then he hit the bed, and she felt a sharp pain in her foot. The victim jumped out of bed to see she was bleeding. She told officers Wilson had a knife she didn’t see before he stabbed her.

The victim ran outside, calling out to a witness for help. The witness called police, and when they arrived, he told them about the fire and machete incidents from the previous night.

Both the victim and Wilson said they were not fighting when he stabbed her. Wilson claimed he did not stab her and did not have any kind of cutting tool. He said the two smoked a cigarette together, and he was lying at the top of the bed when her foot was stabbed.

One of the deputies went into the house, where he found a small spot of blood on the right side of the bed and a razor blade knife on the floor near the foot of the bed. The blade was underneath a mask. A trail of blood led from the bedroom through the house, growing larger near the front porch.

When asked about the knife, Wilson said it wasn’t his, but his fingerprints might be on it because he had picked it up before. He told the deputy there was “a lot going on in his head.”

Deputies noted in their report that Wilson seemed to be having possible mental health issues or seemed to be under the influence of a narcotic. Wilson denied both. He was charged with aggravated assault and probation violation and booked into the Liberty County Detention Center.

Bond was denied, and Wilson remains in custody.

On October 13, 2022 at approximately 0359 hours, I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Walnut Lane in reference to a female that had been stabbed. Upon arrival, I spoke with the victim, Ms. [VICTIM #1], who was being attended to by EMS. Ofc. Stender (Midway PD) was the first officer to arrive on scene. I had Ofc. Stender detain and place the suspect, identified as Mr. Wilson Jr., in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle.

Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated she was laying in the bed asleep and woke up after Mr. Wilson Jr. said something. She stated he was smoking a cigarette while sitting at the foot of the bed. She stated Mr. Wilson Jr. seemed to be angry or irritated about something. She stated while laying there, Mr. Wilson Jr. struck the bed. She stated pain instantly went through her foot and she got up out the bed, and noticed she had been stabbed on her left foot (underneath bottom and to the side). She stated she went outside at this time while yelling for Mr. [WITNESS #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated she did not know that Mr. Wilson Jr. had something in his hand, but he had a knife. She stated they were not arguing before the incident happened.

Ms. [VICTIM #1] was given a victim’s pamphlet and told how to obtain a copy of this report. She was transported to the hospital by EMS. I spoke with Mr. [WITNESS #1] next.

Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated he was in the front yard of the residence checking on his dogs, when he heard Ms. [VICTIM #1] frantically crying and yelling his name at the same time. He stated as he got close to Ms. [VICTIM #1], she stated Mr. Wilson Jr. had stabbed her. Mr. [WITNESS #1] called police. Mr. [WITNESS #1] later stated Mr. Wilson Jr. had attempted to burn the house down last night, but police were not called. He stated Mr. Wilson Jr. had also attempted to stab Ms. [VICTIM #1] before. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated Mr. Wilson Jr. had cut the couch using a machete the day prior also.

I removed Mr. Wilson Jr. from my patrol vehicle and removed the handcuffs. I then spoke with him about the incident after advising him he was not under arrest, and that he was only detained previously.

Mr. Wilson Jr. stated they were asleep and he got up to smoke a cigarette and got back into the bed. He stated Ms. [VICTIM #1] smoked the other half of the cigarette. He stated next thing he knows, Ms. [VICTIM #1] jumps up out of the bed and had been stabbed in the foot. Mr. Wilson Jr. stated he was laying at the head of the bed when Ms. [VICTIM #1] was stabbed, and denied sitting at the foot of the bed.

I asked Mr. Wilson Jr. about the cutting tool he had and he denied having a cutting tool. He stated he threw his knives in the lake earlier in the day. He stated he did this because he was mad earlier. Mr. Wilson appeared to have some mental issues or be under the influence of some kind of narcotics, but denied both. Mr. Wilson Jr. stated after the incident happened, he walked out to the front porch. Mr. Wilson Jr. was detained again in double-locked handcuffs which were checked for fit. He was placed back into the rear seat of my patrol vehicle.

I called and briefed Detective Frost on the incident at this time before proceeding into the residence.

I walked into the residence to the bedroom area and noticed a small amount of blood on the right side of the bed (if facing the head of the bed). I observed a blood trail lead to the front porch of the residence. The blood trail got bigger as I got to the front porch area. I located a razor blade style knife on the floor at the foot of the bed which was underneath a mask. I collected the knife which was later turned over to Detective Frost. I videoed the placement of the knife with my body camera prior to picking it up. I returned to my patrol vehicle at this time.

I read Mr. Wilson Jr. his Miranda Rights and he agreed to speak with me about the incident without an attorney present. Mr. Wilson Jr. stated the knife I had recovered did not belong to him. He stated his fingerprints would possibly be on the knife because he had picked it up before. Mr. Wilson Jr. stated he had alot of stuff going on in his head. He also stated they had not had an argument tonight.

Mr. Wilson Jr. was placed under arrest (in double-locked handcuffs which were checked for fit) for aggravated assault. He was searched incident to arrest and nothing was found. His cigarettes and lighter were left on scene. He was placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle for transport. The rear seat of my patrol vehicle was searched after my last transport, and no contraband was found.

Ofc. Stender took pictures of the crime scene at my request and they were eventually sent to Detective Frost.

Mr. Wilson Jr. was transported to the Liberty County Detention Center for further processing. I searched the rear seat of my patrol vehicle after transport, and no contraband was found. Detective Frost will be securing a warrant for aggravated assault against Mr. Wilson Jr.
