GBI arrests Hapeville police officer on battery charges after ‘repeatedly tasing man in custody·

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on June 7, 2024:

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – The GBI has arrested and charged Hapeville Police Officer Shevoy Brown, age 29, of Hampton, Georgia, with Battery and Violation of Oath of Office. On June 4, 2024, the Hapeville Police Department asked the GBI to investigate a use-of-force incident involving the officer.

On June 3, 2024, Brown responded to a call for service. Brown arrested a man and took him to the Hapeville Police Department for processing.

While the man was in Brown’s custody at the police department, Brown repeatedly used a Taser on the man in a manner that was not consistent with the training and policy of the police department. The arrestee was medically evaluated and booked into the Fulton County Jail on misdemeanor charges.

Once notified of the incident, Hapeville Police Department Chief Bruce Hedley immediately requested that the GBI initiate an independent investigation. Brown is currently booked at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
