I responded in normal mode to Phoebe ER (417 W 3rd Ave) in reference to a delayed disorderly conduct that occurred at Turner Job Corps (2000 Schilling Ave). Upon arrival I made contact with Erika Smith. Smith stated that she was a student a Turner Job Corps. Smith stated at approximately 7pm today (02-01-2024) she was attacked by her roommate, Samauria Browning. Smith stated that there were no witnesses to the physical altercation.

Smith stated that Browning’s charger was plugged into the wall and resting on her bed. Smith stated due to the charger not currently being used, she tossed the charger on Browning’s bed. Smith stated that Browning perceived that as she was attempting to throw the charger and intentionally strike her. Smith stated Browning then approached her by near her side of the bed and kicked her in the stomach, knowing she is pregnant. Smith stated the physical altercation eventually ended because they stopped. Smith stated she wanted police to address the issue, because Turner Job Corps usually does not address issues like this appropriately.

Smith stated a couple of hours after the fight, she was confronted by Browning’s friend, My’Kaila Porter. Smith stated Porter requested that they fight since she had fought Browning. Smith stated when they were about to fight; an RA (resident assistant) was in the hallway. Smith stated they both then agreed to go in one of the dorm rooms. Smith stated Porter then entered one of the dorm rooms, and took off her jacket. Smith stated at this time other people who were standing by began to step in the middle of them to prevent them from fighting. Smith stated her and Porter did swing at each other, but did not strike one another. However, they were advised that the RA did possibly get struck trying to break the two of them up.

I then made contact with Porter at Turner Job Corps. Porter stated that she was made aware that Browning and Smith had been in a physical altercation. Porter stated after seeing how bad Browning was beat up, she became upset. Porter stated she decided to confront Smith about the incident. Porter stated when she seen Smith she asked her about what happened between her and Browning. Porter stated the verbal altercation escalated. Porter stated she could not remember if she swung or not. However, she does know that Smith swung at her but she was not struck, and nor did she strike Smith.

The staff at Turner Job Corps was able to provide me with video footage of the altercation that took place between Smith and Porter in the hallway. The staff advised they are not able to provide any footage of the fight between Smith and Browning, due to that fight occurring in the actual dorm room where no cameras are installed.

In the video footage I observed Smith and Porter attempting to strike each other by swinging, but they are both unsuccessful at making contact due to an individual (the RA) trying to keep them apart.

Porter was then handcuffed, searched, and placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle. Porter was transported to the Dougherty County Jail and released to their staff for Disorderly Conduct (Citation# BB001104).

Moments later, Smith was released from the hospital. Smith was then handcuffed, searched, and transported to the Dougherty County Jail from Turner Job Corps. Smith was then released to the staff at DCJ, for Disorderly Conduct (Citation# BB001105)

I then made contact with Browning at Phoebe. I observed several bruises/knots on her head. Browning stated she was in a physical altercation with her roommate, Erika Smith. Browning stated the altercation began because she was telling Smith how she carried a foul odor and needed to clean more. Browning stated she guess Smith did not like what she was saying and the conversation became physical. Images were taken of Browning bruises, and will be logged into property management along with the video that was recovered.

Upon Browning discharge from the hospital, she will be transported to DCJ in reference to Disorderly Conduct.

This case was cleared by arrest.
