The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department on November 27, 2023:
CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. – On November 22, 2023, at approximately 1:09 PM, ACCPD conducted an operation to arrest Demetrius Collins (18 YOA, Athens). Collins was arrested outside a residence in the 100 block of Parkview Homes.
Collins was out on bond for several violent offenses, including a carjacking that occurred in 2021. Also arrested in the operation was Marcus Dowdy (22 YOA, Athens), who was with Collins at the time of the operation.
A search of the suspects and residence located five firearms – four handguns (one reported stolen and one modified for machine gun fire) and a stolen AR-15 rifle.
In addition to the felony warrants, Collins was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and Obstruction. Dowdy was arrested for Possession of a Machine Gun, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Marijuana, Less than an Ounce.
